Developing a Voice-Led Early Years Music Practice

Musicaliti is the developing creative practice of an early years songwriter and practitioner exploring calm, voice-led musical approaches. The work focuses on how simple, adaptable songs and vocal play can support connection, regulation and inclusion in early years settings, with particular attention to practitioner confidence.

The practice has grown from direct experience of working alongside early years practitioners who often feel under-confident using their voice, or overwhelmed by high-energy, performance-led music models. Musicaliti explores an alternative approach that values voice as a relational tool rather than a performance skill, and music as something that can be responsive, permissive and embedded in everyday practice.

At the heart of the work is original songwriting that is intentionally minimal and flexible. Songs are designed to be sung, spoken, hummed or adapted, rather than learned and reproduced exactly. This allows practitioners to make musical choices that suit their own voice, setting and the needs of the children they work with, without fear of doing things “wrong”.

This page shares examples of work in development rather than finished outputs. Any audio or video included is intended to give a sense of tone, pace and approach, and reflects an ongoing process of research, reflection and refinement. The work is currently being developed through songwriting, practitioner pilots and reflective evaluation, with a focus on learning rather than scale or delivery.

Musicaliti is not a programme or a performance offer. It is a developing practice rooted in listening, presence and choice, and is intended to support calmer, more inclusive musical experiences for both adults and children in early years contexts.

This work is currently in a development phase supported by reflective research and practitioner engagement.
