About Musicaliti

Musicaliti® is the name under which this body of work is held.

It provides a home for the Musicaliti Early Years Music Progression™ and the wider materials, reflections and resources that sit around it. This includes work developed through practice, publication, writing, songs and other forms of musical exploration over time.

This site does not aim to present Musicaliti as a broad service platform or organisational hub. Its purpose is simpler: to locate the work clearly, establish its provenance, and provide a quiet point of reference.

Origin

The Musicaliti Early Years Music Progression™ was originally developed in 2013.

It emerged through sustained engagement with early years music practice, close attention to musical development, and an ongoing interest in how musical growth may be understood with greater clarity and care. Over time, this work has been expressed in different forms, including publications, songs, articles, videos and practical resources.

Musicaliti exists as the name that gathers and holds this body of work.

Provenance

The work held under Musicaliti® has developed gradually and reflectively over time.

It is rooted in practice rather than abstraction, and shaped by real engagement with musical learning, participation and development in early years contexts. The progression sits within this wider body of work, not as an isolated product, but as a central framework through which many related materials may be understood more clearly.

This site therefore serves not only as a place of access, but as a way of naming the origin, continuity and context of the work.

Authorship and stewardship

Musicaliti originates with Frances Turnbull and is held as a distinct body of work under the Musicaliti® name.

The intention is not to enlarge or overstate the work, but to maintain its clarity, continuity and integrity. This includes recognising the progression as a long-standing framework, and ensuring that related resources remain connected to that framework rather than becoming detached from it over time.

Musicaliti is therefore both a point of origin and a point of stewardship.

Relationship to practice, education and sector work

Musicaliti is closely connected to practice.

It has grown through real musical work with young children and through reflection on how musical development may be supported, observed and articulated in early years settings. Its relevance extends into educational thinking and practitioner understanding, while remaining grounded in lived musical experience rather than abstract prescription.

It also sits in relationship to wider sector conversations about early years music, but does not claim to represent the sector as a whole. Its purpose is more specific: to hold and clarify this particular body of work.

Musicaliti and other work

Musicaliti is a distinct body of work.

It is not the same as related projects nor is it intended as a broad organisational or service identity. Where there are relationships with other areas of practice, these should not blur the boundaries of Musicaliti itself.

This distinction matters because Musicaliti exists to hold a specific framework and body of associated work with clarity. It is not a catch-all label for unrelated activity, and it is not intended to function as a general umbrella for wider projects.

A note on development

Musicaliti has developed slowly and intentionally.

This site reflects that pace. It is not designed to gather constant activity, but to offer a stable and coherent home for a body of work that has grown over time and may continue to evolve carefully in the future.
